UNLIMITED POSSIBILITIES
Bespoke glass manufacturing
At Gekoglass, we offer a range of glass and glazing solutions to meet your needs. Our state-of-the-art workshop and wealth of experience means we can deliver quality service every time. Our services include UPVC window and door repairs, replacement of double-glazed units (DGU’s), processed glass, safety glass, mirrored glass and UV bonding.
-
UV Bonding is a process whereby, typically two pieces of glass are glued together using a UV curing adhesive, which is cured by either a UV light or UV activator. The advantage of using this technique is that the "glued" joints show no visible sign of the uv glue itself and has a professional look and feel!
-
UV bonding is by far the strongest and neatest way of constructing glass furniture, glass showcases and can be applied in many other applications.
-
Metal parts such as Stainless steel or aluminium hinges, knobs and locks are also UV Bonded to the glass which delivers that excellent look and feel! UV bonding is by far the strongest and neatest way of constructing glass furniture, glass showcases and can be applied in many other applications.
-
When we say processed glass we refer to glass that has under gone additional 'processes' beyond the float line. This includes toughening(tempering), laminating, straight edge polishing, straight edge beveling, drilling and CNC cutting and shaping.
-
Edge Polishing gives a smooth, clean edge to a piece of glass. Removing the sharp edges and leaving the edge with excellent light transmission, especially in the case of low iron glass. Straight edge polishing is excellent for glass bonding.
-
CNC (Computer Numerical Control) cut glass is for when a more precise complex shape is required. Ideal for cutting out for sockets on our glass splashbacks.
-
Beveled edges can be created in a very similar way as polished edges. Leaving the edges smooth and adding an attractive light reflective faceted surface which work very well in mirrored glass.
-
Low-iron glass is a type of high-clarity glass that is made from silica with very low amounts of iron. This low level of iron removes the greenish-blue tint that can be seen especially on larger and thicker sizes of glass. Low-iron glass is used for aquariums, display cases, some windows, and other applications where clarity is desired.
-
Toughened or tempered glass is a type of safety glass processed by controlled thermal or chemical treatments to increase its strength compared with normal glass. Tempering puts the outer surfaces into compression and the inner surfaces into tension.
-
Such stresses cause the glass, when broken, to crumble into small granular chunks instead of splintering into jagged shards as plate glass (a.k.a. annealed glass) creates. The granular chunks are less likely to cause injury. As a result of its safety and strength, toughened glass is used in a variety of demanding applications, including Door glass, shower doors, architectural glass doors, tables and all low level glazing.
-
Laminated glass is a type of safety glass that holds together when shattered. In the event of breaking, it is held in place by an interlayer, typically of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) or ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), between its two or more layers of glass. The interlayer keeps the layers of glass bonded even when broken, and its high strength prevents the glass from breaking up into large sharp pieces.
-
Impact produces a characteristic "spider web" cracking pattern when the impact is not enough to completely pierce the glass.Laminated glass is normally used when there is a possibility of human impact or where the glass could fall if shattered and also for architectural applications.
-
Insulated glazing (IG), more commonly known as double glazing (or double-pane, and increasingly triple glazing/pane), consists of two or three glass window panes separated by an air or gas filled space to reduce heat transfer across a part of the building envelope.
-
PLANITHERM products use a special coating to reflect heat that you generate back into your home, rather than allowing it to escape through your windows. This coating also allows free heat from natural daylight to pass through the glass, warming the room for free and saving you money*.
